First edition. A presentation copy, inscribed and with a small original
watercolor drawing by Clara Tice of two small dogs (Llewellyn Setters?).
Minor rubbing to the corners and bottom edge; slight crease at the upper
corner of the title page; otherwise a very nice copy in a jacket with a few
chips and tears; splitting along the joints, and a few tiny spots.

with printed paper label. $ 650.00 Fourth edition. With a presentation
inscription by Charles Furlong and above it, a hightly detailed pen-and-ink
drawing, with some added color in red, of a cowboy, on the front free
endpaper. Gold oxidized on spine; extremities bumped; small tidemark to
fore-edge; a very good copy with the inscription and drawing in nice
condition. "American in its subject, spirit, and character; wholesome,
thrilling real, with a kick in every picture and punch in every sentence."

dust jacket. $ 3,000.00 First edition, first state. A fine copy in an
attractive jacket. The jacket has a vertical tear through the back panel,
which has been neatly repaired on the verso with Japanese tissue, without
any loss of the original paper. There are a few small chips at edges, and
some short tears. Otherwise a bright example of a scarce dust jacket.

brown cloth, preserved in a custom folding box. $ 12,500.00 Wagner-Camp
123:1. First edition. The scarce large folding map is present. The Littell
copy, with gilt leather label. "This is perhaps the rarest of
cartographical delineations of the Western Country" (Wagner). One of the
important source books of the Overland and one of the best accounts of the
Snively Overland Expedition. The author's travels were extensive all
through the mountain regions, and his account of his encounters with
mountain men and incidents are detailed and meticulous. 20th c. bookplate
tipped in at gutter; contemporary ink ownership inscriptions; some light
foxing throughout; 3" old tape repair to the map.
