John C. Ewers - Blackfeet Indian Tipis, Design and Legend
Museum of the Rockies, Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana 1975 Condition of slipcase Near Fine, portfolio is pristine.
A portfolio of 26 silk screen prints of the the painted tipis of the Blackfeet Indians.
During the summers of 1944-45, Olga Ross Hannon and Jessie Wilber visited the Sun Dance encampments of the South Piegan near Browning and at Heart Butte in Montana.
They also visited the Sun Dance encampments of the Blood Indians near Cardston Alberta, Canada. They took color slides and made sketches of the colorful tipi designs.
In 1975 for the Bicentennial prints were silk screened for the portfolio. Text was written by John Ewers.
This portfolio was given to museums and libraries but none were for sale. I have searched American Book Prices and find no record of this being offered at auction since publication in 1976. A truly scarce item in private hands.
Price $7,500.
