Original pictorial red cloth, front boards with gilt titles and gilt running horse battle, black border and trees, spines with gilt field and gilt native with black and red titles. 180 color plates of 320 illustrations including three color maps, one fold-out. Original dust-jackets for each. Third map is, "A Chart Shewing the Moves of the Mandans & Place of Their Extinction." An extremely attractive set, cloth and gilt practically glowing. $2500.00

GAS AND OIL. Whitney, Caspar. Charles Adelbert Canfield . Private Printing, N. Y.: 1930. First Edition. Very Good+. Original folio half cloth, gold stamped leather label on spine, label rubbed, some speckling to covers. A rare memoir of this noted western mining and oil magnate, produced in an edition of 175 copies. Canfield started mining in Colorado in 1870, moving on to Nevada in 1874, and New Mexico in 1886, and then moved to Los Angeles where he went bust in land speculation. In 1892 he went into oil with E. L. Doheny, subject of the film "There Will Be Blood" starring Daniel Day Lewis. Howes W384. Paher Nevada 2152. Cowan IV 672. Halfbound red morocco on adobe cloth, gilt titles to spine, gilt border to front and rear. Banded spine. Top edge gilt. Frontis with tissue guard. Illustrated plates. A very presentable copy, gilt brilliant, rich red leather, hinges and binding strong. Ms. Bird was a British world traveller who resided in Colorado, climbed Long's Peak in 1873, and made an 800 mile tour of the Rockies. Howes II: 94. $200.00
