Number 589 of 760 limited numbered sets the first volume of which is signed by A. Conan Doyle
on the limitation page. Complete in 24 volumes. Octavo. Beige cloth spines over light brown boards.
First 23 volumes in very good condition with a few minor marks and slight variation in shade to
spine and spine labels. Volume 24 shows darkened spine with scuff to label and sun shadow to
front board. Previous owner’s book plate dated 1930.

Number 63 of 100 copies (from a total of 650) signed by the author on the half title page.
Frontispiece is a (very) abstract portrait of the author by Constantin Brancusi. Stiff
white cover printed in black and red protected in original glassine wraps and housed in
original green and silver slipcase. Book shows some darkening to the spine and the slipcase
shows light shelf wear with sun fading to edges.

First edition in three volumes. Each volume signed by Charles A. Washburn, United States
Commissioner and later Minister Resident of Paraguay during the Civil War years. In 1871 he
completed the first English language history of Paraguay presumably using this set as a
reference. Three quarto volumes. French language. Green leather spines over marbled boards.
Some rubbing to boards, spines and extremities.

The Political History of Slavery in the United States. James Z. George. The Neale Publishing Company, New York. 1915.
First edition. This copy presented by William Hayne Leavell, United States Envoy Extraordinary
Guatemala, who wrote the book’s foreword and financed it’s publication, to his friend Col.
Dillingham. Included is a handwritten letter from Leavell to Dillingham on paper embossed
“Legation of the United States of America.” Octavo. Dark blue cloth with title, author and
publisher in gold on the spine. Book in very good condition with minor foxing to last few
pages and light shelf wear to cover.
