Lone Cowboy, My Life Story. Will James. 1930, Scribner's, New York - London.

1930 First Edition. One of 250, with an original drawing; quite scarce, as the drawing was often removed, difficult to find in nice condition; a Merrill Aristocrat. The book is very fine, with the covers as bright a green as ever seen. The label is nearly fine and the gilt is bright. The binding is tight and there are no marks inside the book. The slipcase is rarely found; it is complete, though it does appear to have had some restoration many years ago. There is age toning, with a tan hue to the original green. The label is in very good condition with some wear/minor chipping along the edges. It has done its job of protecting the book and is still very nice itself. The drawing is of a horse and rider riding into a snowstorm, the horse knee-deep in snow. The cowboy is in neckrag and wooly chaps; the horse is moving left to right with a hackamore rig, and rope coiled on the saddle.

Texan Ranch Life. Mary Jaques. London: Horace Cox, 1894.

1894 First Edition. A most important cattle and Texana book! Written by a woman who left England to visit the U.S. from 1889 to 1891, was overwhelmed by her experiences in Texas (and Mexico and California), returned to England to write very detailed experiences of Texas ranch life. Reese: “… this rare book describes a trip to Mexico shortly before her return to England, … but a good part of the work deals with her ranch experiences. Much surprised her, but she took it in her cultured stride.” A Reese Six-Score and a Merrill Aristocrat. A very good copy in brown pictorial cloth, with gold stamping which is still quite bright. Surprisingly rare!
