Railroad and County Map of Texas. E. Mendenhall. Cincinnati, Ohio: 1873

Description:
An apparently unrecorded map of Texas not found in Day, Streeter Sale, Graff, Rumsey, OCLC, with no recorded sales in Antique Map Price Record, or ABPC. E[dward] Mendenhall appears in Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers as publisher of several eastern and central state maps, but there is no mention of a Texas issue. I'd be delighted to find a reference I have missed, and will provide a pass for 2 to the 2015 Rocky Mountain Book and Paper Fair to whomever can correct me.

The map measures 22 by 17 inches. There is virtually no county development west of the 100th meridian with giant Young and Bexar counties occupying the west. An inset map shows three counties in the western horn of the state. Indian Territory appears in its entirety with many - but not all - nations named.

It was originally a pocket map with embossed board covers, present here. Original hand color, somewhat faded.

Condition:
The condition of the map is only fair. There were many separations and fold splits with some loss. It is now laid down and encapsulated.

Price $3,750.00

Colorado Territory starring Joel McCrea and Virginia Mayo. Raoul Walsh, Director. Hollywood, CA: Dominant Pictures Corp., 1956

Description:
An original one sheet lobby poster for the 1956 re-release of the classic Western "Colorado Territory" partially filmed in Durango, Colorado. Directed by Raoul Walsh, "Colorado Territory" was released in 1949 and was a remake of "High Sierra" (1941) starring Humphry Bogart, also directed by Walsh. In the film notorious outlaw Wes McQueen (Joel McCrea taking Bogart's original role) is freed from jail and heads off to the Colorado Territory to meet with his old friend Dave Rickard (Basil Ruysdael) and pull off one last big train robbery so they can both retire. Chaos ensues.

Condition:
The poster measures 41 by 27 inches. It is folded as sent to the theater. With a couple of stray light creases, else clean and bright. Back stamp of the "Varsity Theater, August 6, 1957."

Price $150.00

Portrait and Biographical Record of Denver and Vicinity. Chicago, Chapman Publishing Company, 1898

Description:
AA massive, 1306 page mug book of photos and biographies of prominent (likely, anybody willing to pay for being included) Denverites and Coloradoans with at least one church and an entry for the University of Colorado. The four page index by my estimate has around 950 entries. The text has bios of U. S. Presidents and many white males. There is an occasional wife but I see no individual women listed and certainly no one of color. The full page portraits are not listed separately but there are many; some sections of the text block seem to have a picture every other page.

Condition:
Full decorated leather, all edges gilt. Leather rubbed with scuffed extremities, spine faded but gilt title still quite legible. Binding sound. Internally clean with no stains, writing, tears or water damage.

Price $450.00
