Description:
First edition. Original decorated cloth binding. Set in New Orleans and on the Louisiana Gulf coast at the end of the 19th century, the plot centers on Edna Pontellier and her struggle to reconcile her increasingly unorthodox views on femininity and motherhood with the prevailing social attitudes of the turn-of-the-century American South. It is one of the earliest American novels that focuses on women's issues without condescension. It is also widely seen as a landmark work of early feminism.

RHYMES OF THE RANGES. Bruce Kiskaddon (1878-1950). Self-published. Printed by Earl Hays, Hollywood, 1924.
 

Description:
Approx. 6-1/4 x 9-1/2 inches, softcover, saddle-stapled binding, unpaginated [59 pages], in a custom clam-shell box with exterior of tan-colored calf leather.
 

Inscribed and signed by the author, in ink, on the title page. Inscription reads “To my old Friend Dick Roseneisel(?) / of the A.E.F. / Bruce Kiskaddon”. A previous owner has written, in pencil, “A.E.F = American Expeditionary Force”. Kiskaddon served with the AEF, in France, during WWI.
 

Poetry by America's 'Cowboy Poet Laureate'. Poem Titles: Introductory, When They've Finished Shippin' Cattle in the Fall, The Midwinter Bath, The Willow Creek Wedding, The Parson's Shotgun Chaps, The Cow-boy's Dream, *The Old Moss Back, The Air They Breathe Out West, When To Get Tough, *The Adventurer, *Our Sweetheart, When You're Throwed, The Muley Steer, The Gray Wolf, *The Parada Shark, The Discovery, The Old “Night Hawk”, *A Character, An Experiment, *The Disaster, The Time to Decide, The Lost Mines, Our Boss, *The Dark Horse, The Long-Eared Bull, *Bonnie, Between The Lines, Who Told the Biggest, The Stampede, The New Mexico Stray, The Cow-boy's If. Eight of these poems (those marked *) do not appear in either of Kiskaddon's later books of poetry, nor in the recent books published by Gibbs Smith.
 

No other copies, of this edition, listed for sale on any major book-listing sites, no auction records to be found. Six copies held by various libraries according to OCLC.
 

Condition:
Most of the original cover is missing. The front cover illustration is present, laid in. Overall, pages are fragile and beginning to separate from staples, some foxing present. Final sheet has a bad corner crease that could be repaired with archival tape.
