L. A. Huffman, 1926
Photograph by Montana pioneer photographer, L. A. Huffman. Taken in 1880, with a stereoscopic wet-plate camera, of the encampment of a large group of Sioux Indians (approx. 2000) who had returned from Canada and surrendered to Gen. Nelson Miles at Ft. Keogh, Montana Territory. This enlarged print, made in 1926, measures 11 1/2 x 23 and is beautifully hand colored, titled and signed by Huffman. In original frame and with interesting provenance. A superb example of one of Huffman's most popular and iconic images.
