Description:
Hand annotated plotting chart from the 1971 Apollo 14 recovery mission. This chart comes from a guy who served as a communications officer on the USS New Orleans (LPH-11) which was the recovery ship for the Apollo 14 mission. The USS New Orleans picked up astronauts Alan Sheppard, Stuart Roosa and Edgar Mitchell and recovered the command module Kitty Hawk about 900 miles south of American Samoa on February 9, 1971. This was the eighth Apollo mission and the third to land on the Moon. This chart was used aboard the USS New Orleans to calculate the exact Apollo 14 splash down location and was kept as a souvenir by the ship’s communications officer. Plotting chart comes with other ephemera related to original owner's naval career and work on the Apollo 14 recovery mission
