Red cloth, gold stamped titles to front and spine. Deckled edge. Frontis. Illustrated, plates. Very good or better book with lightly faded spine, titles light but discernible. Binding square, hinges strong. No dust-jacket. "A highly important book....The controversies are: the raft journey of James White, and the affair at Separation Rapids. These are but fragments from Stanton's truly prodigious researches." (Farquhar, 50) Inscription by Julius Stone, author of the foreword and "Canyon Country," dated 1/23/34 . "Julius F. Abbott, Jack Henry. In the Belly of the Beast: Letters from Prison. Vintage Books, 1982. First Paperback. 12mo., pp. 198. SIGNED by Jack Abbott to his prison doctor, May 1982. Very good- book with light creasing to front wrap, tiny chip to head of spine, pages toned. Introduction by Norman Mailer, who successfully rallied for Abbott's parole. Soon after his release and garnering some attention among the literati, Abbott was convicted of manslaughter after stabbing a man. He died in prison in 2002. #3303 $300.00
