Audubon, John J. & Bachman, John. Quadrupeds of North America. New York: V. G. Audubon, 1849-51-54. First octavo edition, with all 31 original wrappers present, and bound into 3 volumes. All 155 hand-colored plates are present, as issued. The plates are all bright and fresh. Bound in contemporary 3/4 brown morocco over maroon cloth, raised bands on spine, gilt lettering; beveled edges, marbled edges and end papers. Light wear to bindings. In 2011, an unbound set in original wrappers, sold for more than sixty thousand dollars.

An outstanding set, having all the ads and slips called for by Hatton & Cleaver, except for the now rare "Grace Aguilar's Works" slip in part XVI. Most spines are expertly and almost invisibly renewed. Housed in a custom tan quarter-leather slipcase.
