The author lived with Twain during the last years of his life and had access to Twain's papers and letters. This is the authorized biography (1912) containing many unpublished pieces. Half red leather and half marbled boards, 5 bands on spine with gold titles, top edge gilded, untrimmed pages. Some pages are still uncut. Fully illustrated. Scarce in this leather-bound edition. Copyright pages on each volume states published September 1912. Date on title pages is also 1912. Each volume has the publishers code K-M indicating a publication date of October (K), 1912 (M). Volume I, 562 pages; Volume II, pages 563-1110; Volume III, pages 1111-1719, appendix A-X, index. All three sets are tightly bound and no writing or previous owner's names.
