Brains and Money vs. Resources Illustrated and embellished with views of one of the most resourceful yet undeveloped
sections of the Rocky Mountain region ........
Isaac Van Horn. Self-published by Isaac Van Horn & Co. Bankers - Boston and Laramie.
Description:
Quarto cloth with gilt titles. Probably 1901,140 p. Very good with no marks except ink name "James H. Crawford" who
was a prominent rancher and settler in northwest Colorado. Apparently a promotional book for mining and other investment
ventures in northwest Colorado and into Laramie, Wyoming. Excellent photos, map, a contract for investing. Roll the dice
in the Laramie, Hahns Peak & Pacific Railway. Or smelting, lumber, power & irrigation, copper, town company, bank, hotel
even publishing. Yes, there was some railroad building and mining but this fell to the side of a scam. The New York Times
reported in 1913 that Mr. Van Horn petitioned for bankruptcy in Concord, NH, with assets of $100 and liabilities
exceeding $778,000. Fascinating.
