Route from Liverpool to Great Salt Lake Valley. 1st edition in full extra gilded leather with color map. James Linforth. Illustrated by Frederick Piercy. Liverpool: Franklin D. Richards, 1855.

Description:
1st edition. 120 pp. Illustrated. 4to. Leaf green leather with raised bands, elaborate gilt decor, rolled edges and dentelles. All edges gilt. Pale green gilt patterned endsheets. Book Condition: Very good with lightly bumped and scuffed edges. Front free endsheet and terminal flyleaf each have a small name label from previous owner. Front flyleaf has a contemporary owner's signature in pencil along side a statement in an unknown hand stating that the book was a gift from Franklin D. Richards, the publisher, in December 1884. The folding trail map with is in very good condition. It has been neatly reattached with white fabric tape. Light cracking of the text block between pages 118 and 119 with evidence of skilled but amateur resewing of a gathering in the gutter there. All 30 steel engravings are present but nine of them are lacking tissue guards. Pages are very clean and the binding is bright, tight and attractive. This copy is supplied with the scarce color tinted tri-folding frontispiece map of the immigration trail. Most copies received only black and white maps. A handsome copy in the fanciest binding with the best map and with especially clean steel engravings. An apparent gift from the publisher. Flake 06381
